February 14th, 1926

Warren Hives, Elder of the Blue Bell Episcopalian Church, is two hours overdue for a hot supper. Were he not knuckle-deep into his work, the events of that night would be lost to obscurity and ignorance. Instead, Warren and Louise Hives have fallen into the clutches of a terrible enemy, and only with the aid of a nebulous group of masked men can they hope to outlast the evil without.

* Immerse yourself in a character-driven horror-thriller plot

* Control up to 4 individual characters, following their own threads

* Overcome the peril of your pursuers in order to unravel the mystery

* Explore a robust depiction of 1920's rural Vermont

* Experience crisp and nostalgic visuals, emulating an older time

Blue Bell aims to be a story-driven, stealth-horror hybrid without one direct inspiration, instead built on the tastes favoured by its creators after over a decade of indulging the genre.

DEMO RELEASE - NOVEMBER 1ST, 5:30PM GMT

+ ---- +

Blue Bell is a passion project, created and directed by one untrained amateur, upholstered by the unspeakable help of a part-time programmer and a tight focus group of counsellors.

It has been in a rocky development cycle since late 2023, but has since picked up steam in the past year as the developer becomes more comfortable in the role, and his help tests its commendable patience. Our only hope is to deliver even a crumb of the same excitement that we crave in games today.

Thought this looked fantastic, really strong cinematography. Loved the thoughtful, locked-off camera angles (no panning, no trucking, all very very intentional and well-crafted). The sound design and music were perfectly suited to the project, very atmospheric. The animation was incredibly strong - the little detail with the ink pot was brill!

Unfortunately, there are some collision / lighting issues (lantern penetrating walls etc) and some moments where the character is allowed to wander off-screen for no discernible reason with the player required to get 'em back on screen (a personal gripe of mine with games like this!).

I also couldn't seem to trigger anything further having found the mask in the graveyard, which was a bit of a disappointment... However! Very excited to see more of this - we'll keep an eye out from the Fixed Camera Appreciation Society...! https://steamcommunity.com/groups/fixedcamera

This is the sort of comment I sincerely look forward to, thanks for taking the time :^)

Wholeheartedly agree on your points there, particularly the lack of direction. I misjudged certain things, particularly some of the camera angles, making it unecessarily easy to get lost in such a small area, so that'll need tweaking for sure.

The lack of direction itself is another pertinent issue, as even after you find where you're supposed to go after finding the mask there's another place you need to go that is also quite unclear. Whenever I pick my sorry arse up to do some patching those are the top two things on my agenda.

Once again thank you for the appraisal, I hope I can whisk you back for the next update :^)

Yeah, there's some player-direction issues to address, but the visual-direction/framing is really solid. Excited to see the next version - keep us updated at FCAS. =) (Also, fair dues for doing this in Godot, I'd say you encountered a few surprised during development!)

I owe it all to my programmer, I'd have dust in my hands without him!

Once I manage to rid myself of the interminable urges of my secondary project, Blue Bell will be back on the menu

hmmm

So trve

ngl, your game looks really interesting :)

Thank you, I hope it holds up :^)
